Fall Assembly 2023: A Legacy of Peace

Pax Christi Metro New York held our general membership meeting and Fall Assembly on Saturday, November 18th, 2023.

Titled “A Legacy of Peace,” the event featured the following speakers:

  • Kevin Ahern; Manhattan College; PCMNY Peacemaker
  • John Tweedy, CFP®; Former PCMNY Treasurer
  • Joe McDonough; PCMNY Vice President

The event opened with a collective prayer for peace in light of the crises in Palestine, Israel, and Ukraine.

Kevin Ahern introduced the Dorothy Day Center at Manhattan College, now hosting an art exhibit by the New York artist Kristi Pfister inspired by the work of Dorothy. In addition to viewing the artwork together as a group, we spent some time discussing Dorothy’s life and witness to peace and disarmament. Participants also learned more about the cause for Dorothy’s sainthood. Kevin is a longtime friend of the Pax Christi Metro New York movement since starting a campus chapter in college at Fordham. He generously facilitated PCMNY’s use of the Smith Hall where our assembly was held.

John Tweedy CFP® presented on various ways of charitable giving that result in the most tax-effective giving for the donor, both those retired and those still in the workplace.

Joe McDonough reviewed highlights of the history and the work of Pax Christi Metro New York in building a Legacy of Peace.

The assembly also featured reports on the state of PCMNY, PCNYS and PCUSA. There was time for discussion and Q&As, as well as a nice spread of light refreshments.
