Us/Them? Peace in the Jesus Way

Assistant Professor of Theology, Creighton University

Us/Them? Peace in the Jesus Way

In the midst of the polarization and conflict that characterizes our times, many people of faith ask, “Is there a way out?” This interactive presentation will explore the way of Jesus for guidance.

After an initial focus on the meanings of biblical concepts foundational to Jesus’ way (e.g., peace, justice, love, truth, freedom), we will consider their implications for efforts to rise to the challenge of our times, to be peacemakers in both our personal relationships and societal interactions (Matthew 5:9)

The 90-minute Zoom presentation will include time for Questions & Answers.

Susan Calef, Ph.D., is a New Testament scholar at Creighton University, where she has taught graduate and undergraduate courses in New Testament & Christian spirituality for nearly 30 years. In recent years, her teaching, research, writing, and public speaking have focused on the scriptural foundations of a “faith that does justice” in order to develop a gospel spirituality that can guide a “Spirited citizenship.” She is currently working on a book, Cross Connections for a World in Denial, which seeks to illumine the systemic roots of our current crises: paralyzing polarization, strategic erosion of democracy, and the escalating forms of violence that fill the news.
