John Amidon Keynote Presentation
We are pleased to share peacemaker John Amidon’s keynote presentation “Interconnected Challenges to Peace: Militarism and the Climate Crisis,” presented during the Pax Christi Metro New York (PCMNY) Fall Assembly. About John Amidon: John Amidon is the founder of the Kateri Tekakwitha Peace Conference held in upstate New York, since 1998. John is a contributing editor of Bending the Arc: Striving for Peace and Justice in the Age of Endless War. The book is centered around the Kateri Peace Conference, its stories from well know participants and activists share their experiences of working for peace and justice, and the obstacles to both. John is a former US Marine and long term SOA Watch activist, a Nevada Desert Experience volunteer, working to abolish nuclear weapons and for environmental justice and member of Veterans for Peace. He had been part of the US Academics for Peace 2005 and 2008, traveling to Iran and Syria and later to other Mid East countries meeting with academics, religious leaders and representatives of both Hezbollah and Hamas.
He is a co founder of the Upstate Drone Action, a group dedicated to educating the public and protesting, in creative ways, killer drones operated from Hancock Air Field near Syracuse NY and other upstate military facilities. He has been arrested numerous times for civil resistance.
