Our friends at Back from the Brink is all-in for H. Res. 77.
And we need your help!
Introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives on January 31 by Rep. Jim McGovern (D-MA) and Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-OR), H. Res. 77 calls on the United States to embrace the goals and provisions of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) and to take concrete steps to prevent nuclear war—a threat that is greater today than it’s been since the Cuban Missile Crisis.
It’s time to get serious about this threat and for Congress to step off the sidelines.
Our immediate goal is to get as many members of the House to co-sponsor the bill as possible. Can you write to your House member to urge them to do so?
WRITE TO YOUR HOUSE REPRESENTATIVE TODAY
Here’s why: Co-sponsoring H. Res. 77 is just the first step that members of Congress should take, but far from the only step. What we really need is for more of them to make this issue a real priority and to show genuine leadership in advocating for a world free of nuclear weapons. And for us that means using H. Res. 77 as a key organizing and advocacy tool—a great way for you to bring the issue to your members of Congress and your community.
Here’s how: Start by going to our H. Res. 77 Advocacy Resources webpage which has lots of tips and information for actions that you can take including writing letters to the editor, calling your members of Congress and promoting on social media. (If you’re on Twitter, your tweet should tag your House member. Here’s where you can find their Twitter handle).
Promote and share Back from the Brink’s letter in support of H. Res. 77—signed by 154 local, state and national organizations. Consider mailing or delivering a copy of the letter to the “in district” offices of your members of Congress. Find their contact information here.
As always, if you have any questions about H. Res. 77 or want to learn more about how to get involved with Back from the Brink please reach out to Jeremy Love at jeremy@preventnuclearwar.org.
Sincerely,
